"Built without permission, by skateboarders and later sanctioned by the city, Burnside is the preeminent example of action.... Like a magnifying glass in the sun, Burnside can witness a concentration of skill level unmatched anywhere. You can see crazy, crazy things there. Go, watch, learn, be humbled, excited and inspired. It is amazing."

The Cage

Thursday, June 2
I've been meaning to post this for the past couple of weeks, but I hadn't downloaded my camara until just last night. Anyhow, here are a few pics of the new cage that Red, Sage, Snowman, Coy (aka Germ), and a few others built.

The cage surrounds the dumpster and the two porta-potties that the parks dept. supplies for the park. Over the years the parks dept. has had to replace the portables a number of times due to vandalism. Skaters of the park rarely used them anyhow because of how nasty they were. The only people that were using them were the random vagrant and junkies. Now that we have a new locked up cage, Honey Bucket and the parks dept. have replaced the old, nasty portables with brand new ones.

Now that the cage is locked up tight, if you are skating and need to use the portables, just ask around for the key. We've been giving them to the locals, after they sign a contract, so that there should be no reason there isn't at least one key around. They should be fine to use from now on and if there's any vandalism inside, we know that the skaters have been doing it. If that happens we'll have to re-evaluate the situation and decide what will happen from there.

I shouldn't be writing this right now because I'm still pretty pissed off, but it has to do with the new cage and porta-potties. After talking to the parks dept. and Honey Bucket about getting new portables for a couple of weeks, we finally had the old ones replaced. I knew they had been delivered, so I went to the park today on my lunch hour to put them in the cage.

I got to the park and moved the dumpster out of the cage to make room to slide in the portables. There were four guys there skating and I thought maybe they could help me move them into the cage. So I went up to the closest skater and said, "Say bro, can you help me move these porta-potties into the cage?" His answer, "Man, I just got off work." and he skates off. All right, whatever. Another guy, one I've seen skating the park quite a few times but not quite a local, is sitting up on the elbow, not skating, just sitting. I holler up to him, "Hey, can you help me move these into the cage?" He looks at me, stands up, and drops in like I wasn't even talking to him. Now I was getting a frustrated. The third skater came walking by and I gave him the same line as the other two. He mumbled something like, "Porta-potties?" and dropped in.

I just said screw them and went and moved them into the cage myself. While I was moving them, I saw a couple of them watching me and it really pissed me off. The things weren't all that hard to move, but that's not why I'm so pissed. The reason is because these guys come and skate the park but won't help out with the park for 2 minutes. I know that they don't know me, but who cares. I had the cage totally opened up, so I must be someone that has something to do with the park, right? It pisses me off that these guys thought they were too good to help out some random guy move some crappers for the skatepark. I only wish I had a hose or something, I would have sprayed the entire park with water and shut the place down. Idiots. I'm horrible with names, but I never forget a face and I will remember their faces. If they need anything from the park, they can forget it. Damn I'm pissed.

If you come down to the skatepark and someone asks you for a bit of help with something concerning the park, help them. I know for a fact that the regular locals wouldn't have even asked me what I needed help with, they would have stopped what they were doing and helped. Period.

That's it. Go skate!

Oregon Trifecta 2005

Wednesday, June 1
I reported a few months ago that the Oregon Trifecta may be coming to Burnside. Well, it's now been changed to Newberg.

I'll give more details soon, but I just wanted to get this bit of info out there. And make sure you come back often as I have a whole slew of updates to bring you in the coming weeks now that winter has passed and the weather is becoming more cooperative.

That's it. Go skate!
