Gmail rules and team sports don't
Tuesday, April 27
I recently signed on to the Gmail beta from Google and I must say I'm impressed. First off, Gmail gives you 1 gigabyte of storage. That's 1000 megabytes, not the 2-4 megabytes that Hotmail or Yahoo offer. The reason Google gives you so much storage is because they don't want you to delete e-mails. I'm still trying to come to grips with not deleting old mail but I think I'm starting to come around. Instead of putting mail into folders, you label it. I still don't have enough inbox mail to really get the full effect of the labels so I will hold of on my opinion for now. Another cool feature is instead of randomly checking archived mails looking for a certain thing you can Google search your mail. I know that's not real surprising since it is made by, uh, Google but it is a pretty cool feature. So if you get the opportunity to sign on, do, you won't want to go back to those others. Softball season officially starts next weekend for my team, the Well. We played in a one pitch tournament a few weeks ago and did pretty good considering we've had no practice. Since then we've had a couple of practices and I think we'll do pretty good. I'm playing third base this year. It's my first year at that position and, to be honest, it's a little scary. The ball is hauling a$$ at me on most hits and it's my job to stop it. During our practices I had some teammates hit it as hard as they could towards me so I could get over the fear of the whistling of the ball as it flies through the air at me. I feel pretty confident about it now and think it will be pretty fun.
I'm not much of team sports kind of person though, being a skateboarder for 19 years, and am still trying to get used to others getting mad at me if I screw up. That's what I love about skating. It's me and my board. That's it. No team. No pressure. If I want to slack off it's my business. If I don't feel like trying to bust that new fangled flippity-flip trick, no one cares. I've had my teammates yell at me for not throwing the ball to first base fast enough or getting bummed at me for striking out when I'm up to bat. I think the thing that gets them the hottest though, is when they give me a hard time I just look at them, smile, and say "I don't care, it's just a game." For some reason that really sets some people off. Oh well, I have fun and you know what, it's just a game.
